Nurturing your body through the change of seasons

As the seasons change, it's important to nurture your body with the right foods, exercise, and self-care practices to help you transition smoothly and stay healthy. It’s always easy to fall into unhealthy patterns when the weather starts to cool off, we find ourselves craving more dense carbohydrate foods. But it’s important to remind yourself to stay on top of your healthy patterns. Here are some tips for nurturing your body with the change of seasons:

  1. Focus on seasonal produce:

Eating fruits and vegetables that are in season can help you get the nutrients your body needs during each season. For example, in the Autumn, try incorporating sweet potatoes and pumpkin into your meals. Swap out your cooler foods for more warming foods like roasted veggies, soups and broths.

  2. Stay hydrated:

Drinking enough water is important year-round, but it can be especially important during seasonal transitions when our bodies are adjusting to new weather patterns. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day, and consider adding herbal tea or warm lemon water to your routine for added benefits.

  3. Move your body:

As the weather changes, it can be tempting to skip your regular workout routine. However, staying active can help boost your mood and energy levels. Try incorporating seasonal activities into your exercise routine, such as hiking in Autumn.

  4. Practice self-care:

Taking care of yourself is important during any season, but it can be especially important during seasonal transitions when stress levels may be higher. Consider incorporating practices like meditation, yoga, or aromatherapy into your routine to help you relax and de-stress. Add some Epsom salts to your bath and essential oils to help relax, soothe and warm you.

  5. Get enough sleep:

As the days get shorter in Autumn and winter, it can be tempting to stay up late and sleep in. However, getting enough sleep is crucial for your overall health and wellbeing. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night, and try to stick to a consistent sleep schedule even on the weekends.

By focusing on nourishing your body with the change of seasons, you can help yourself transition smoothly and stay healthy year-round. Remember to listen to your body and make adjustments as needed to support your overall wellbeing. Your health is paramount, and when you are healthy and happy the rest will follow.
